One of the reasons I love Vanellope so much is because of just what a strong little kid she is. She’s gone through years of having her life made into a veritable Hell: been bullied, beaten up, alienated, and deprived of what is literallly her very being’s desire. Throughout the course of the movie she has hope dangled in front of her face twice, only to seemingly lose it in both cases, and when there’s nowhere left to turn, she stands there and accepts the fact that she’s going to die. She’s a little kid whose entire life has sucked, and she stands there and tells Ralph to go on without her. She cares more about his safety than any chance of her own, because he was the one person who at least showed her what it is to have someone care for you. She knows she’s not going to make it, but it shows on her face that as long as he lives, the rest doesn’t matter. That takes bravery, and self-lessness, and it takes love.
And Ralph, in turn, makes the exact same decisions in regards to her. Words can’t describe how much I love these characters and what they’re willing to go through for one another.
